TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

In January 2024, Dream Streets is opening the James R. Brown Transitional Housing Facility. Twelve of the available units will house participants in our Job Readiness Program and thirty six are for individuals and families in need of temporary housing. Our team is excited to expand our Dream Housing initiatives to include transitional living, as the current Middle Tennessee affordable housing crisis is only going to worsen in the coming years. Trends show that this crisis will continue to disproportionately affect the minority populations already living in generational poverty.

Dream Streets is joining the fight to secure affordable housing for all who call Nashville home.

WHY TRANSITIONAL HOUSING?

The unsheltered population in the city of Nashville increased 11% from January 2022 to January 2023

  • Approximately 45% of the city’s unsheltered population is Black

  • 48% of unsheltered Nashvillians report unmet mental health needs

  • 62% of unsheltered Nashvillians report experiencing chronic homelessness

Without transitional housing, our city will continually be missing a crucial step between emergency shelters and permanent housing. Transitional housing offers supportive accommodation that is meant to bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent housing by offering structure, supervision, holistic support, life skills, and education/training opportunities.
